Scattered heavy storms through SA, western NSW, SW Qld
A moist northeasterly wind, a modest trough of cooler upper air, and surface winds converging into a weak trough combined to produce sporadic heavy storms and showers across South Australia and northeastwards into SW Queensland today. In South Australia, Hawker, in the Flinders Ranges 90km NE of Port Augusta, recorded 84mm for the 24 hour period to 9am Wednesday, while Marree reported 40mm at both the airfield and the post office falling in 3 hours to 9 this morning. 40 to 60mm fell northeast of Adelaide in an area between the ranges and the Murray River, Eudunda reporting 59.8, Waikerie 49.6 and Sutherlands 46.6 for the 24 hours to 9am Wednesday. There were some heavy storm falls in Corner Country desert regions, where NSW, Qld and SA borders meet. Innamincka SA recorded 42mm for the 24 hours to 9am Wednesday, while Thargomindah Qld, Quilpie Qld and Tibooburra NSW all recorded between 15 and 25mm in downpours during the early evening.
