Isolated heavy rain in Qld
Flooding continues in NT, Qld and SA inland
Lake Eyre fills
Lake Eyre filling -- Landsat image from AUSLIG
A cloudband that has kept daytime temperatures up to 12° below average across the northern NT and Qld continues to produce sporadic heavy falls and thunderstorms. Longreach received a dump of 58mm in 1 hour and 40 minutes early this evening, and, surprisingly, no thunder was reported by the observer.

Flooding continues to cut roads in the Channel Country near the intersection of the NSW, Qld and SA borders. Roads east and west of Thargomindah remain impassable, as are the Birdsville Track between Birdsville and Innamincka and the Birdsville to Windorah road at Betoota. Groups of people remain cut off by the floods, including 12 northwest of Bedourie and 35 near Boulia. In the southern NT, the Stuart Highway has reopened to high clearance vehicles. Most back roads in northern SA, southern NT and southwestern Qld are likely to remain impassable for several weeks.

Heavy rain across the Channel Country in February and March is now filling Lake Eyre (right). This Landsat image shows the normal saltpan surface of the Lake as light blue. The light green through to dark blue colours show different depths of water in Lake Eyre, and the smaller South Lake Eyre at the bottom of the image. This is one of a collection of images made available by AUSLIG showing the impact of Channel Country flooding.
