Gales spread across SE Australia
The low pressure system that has tracked ESE after developing two days ago under WA deepened further today to 976hPa as it moved south of Kangaroo Island and on under Tasmania. Strong winds were widespread across southern SA, southern NSW, Victoria and Tasmania, with gale to storm force winds in exposed mountain and coastal areas. Heavy rain accompanied the passage of the cold front attached to the low as it crossed the Victorian and NSW Alps. Late in the day, heavy rain arrived in northern Tasmania.
