Record June warmth in southwestern WA
Warm northerlies brought maximum temperatures of 6 to 9° above the June norm to SW WA today
Warm air from the interior swept over WA's southwest today making it the warmest June day in some locations for more than 40 years. New records for June maximum temperatures were set at several weather stations in the southwest and Great Southern (see box below). In Perth, the temperature at the airport rose to within a couple of degrees of the record of 27.8, set on 5 June 1975. Unusually for this time of year, the nation's highest temperature was recorded at Gingin airport, 60km north of Perth, when the mercury rose to 28.4°. The highest temperatures in June are normally found somewhere in the far north of WA, NT or Qld.
