Windy in Tasmania
Gale to storm-force winds were reported from many coastal and highland weather stations in Tasmania today as fronts embedded in a strong westerly stream crossed the island early this morning and again late afternoon. While the top of Mount Wellington is familiar with strong winds, the gust of 141km/h at 4pm was out of the ordinary. Between 2.30pm and 6pm the sustained wind speed varied between 96 and 113km/h, with frequent gusts above 130km/h. Other high windspeeds are given below.
