Wintry weather eases in Tas, but spreads into Vic and NSW
The front that gave wild weather to northern Tasmania yesterday moved through eastern Victoria and NSW today bringing strong winds and highland snow. Winds were gusty with the passage of the front. Cooma Airport, in an exposed basin west of the town, recorded a wind gust of 109km/h just after 5am, about the time the front passed through. The NSW alps recorded yet more substantial snowfalls, with 25mm of precipitation, equating to about 30cm of fresh snow, recorded at Perisher Valley for the 24 hours to 3pm. Slight snow and snow grain showers fell through the day at Oberon on the NSW Central Tablelands, while sleet was reported at Orange Airport.  Heavy rain and strong winds continued across northeastern Tasmania for the first few hours of the day, but gradually abated. However, the snow level across the state dropped to around 600m during the day as colder air moved in from the west.
