Cold morning in NSW and Qld
Widespread rain in SA
Minimum temperatures were 6 to 9 below average over much of inland NSW and southern Qld, but well above normal under cloud cover in northern SA.

It was a cold start to the day through inland NSW and southern Queensland with minimum temperatures in most centres 6 to 9 below the August norm. The central western NSW town of Trangie had its coldest August morning in over 30 years of record when the thermometer dropped to -4°, while Oakey, on the western Darling Downs in Queensland, had an even colder morning at -5°. Clear skies and light winds following yesterday's cold southwesterly outbreak were the cause.

In South Australia, widespread though light rain across the state's central south and central north produced unusually uniform temperatures today. Marla, a truck stop on the Stuart Highway between Port Augusta and Alice Springs recorded a low of 14 and a high of 15, giving it the coldest day and warmest night in the nation, relative to normal.
