Cold winds and wintry thunderstorms in the southeast
Surface chart for 4am. The low, with a central pressure about 986hPa, is moving slowly towards the SE South Australian coast, while its associated cold front balloons out towards Tasmania. BoM

A very slow-moving low pressure system near Adelaide produced a potpourri of wintry weather over South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania today. Short, sharp showers were accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, while exposed coastal and highland locations recorded storm-force winds (see below for details of strong gusts). In Tasmania, heavy rain fell from storms and showers in the state's northwest, with hail heavy enough in Burnie to flood one business when hail-clogged downpipes were unable to clear roof water fast enough.
