Snow, gales and thunderstorms lash Tasmania
Rain brings minor flooding to some NSW and Vic rivers
Heavy snow fell across Tasmania's Central Plateaux and mountain districts overnight and today in the wake of a cold front that crossed the island around midnight. Thunderstorms accompanied the front, dropping 20 to 25mm of rain across the Northern Tiers and down the west coast. The rain turned to snow behind the front, with 7cm reported on the ground at 9am at Liawenee, on the western shore of central Tasmania's Great Lake, and another 5cm or so falling during the day. Temperatures across the Central Plateaux hovered around the zero mark all day, keeping roads treacherous or closed. Snow was reported lying on the mountains behind Geeveston on the southeastern coast during the afternoon.

Heavy showers caused minor flooding late yesterday and into today on the Belubula River in central western NSW, while the King River in northeastern Victoria rose to near minor flood level this afternoon and evening. Minor flooding is also continuing in the Lachlan River after Wyangala dam began spilling a few days ago.
