Trough brings storms to SE Qld, Lord Howe Island
Drought continues in S Qld despite recent rain
A trough arcing northwards from the low that swept through Bass Strait and into the Tasman Sea at the weekend brought a fine electrical display and some heavy rain to southeast Queensland this evening. Tewantin, 120km north of Brisbane, recorded 47.6mm in the hour to 8pm, while Makowata, 90km NW of Bundaberg, recorded 104.6mm for the 24 hours to 9am Tuesday. Lord Howe Island had a day of storms, with 40mm falling between 9pm Sunday and 4 this morning, to be followed by a further 87.4mm, mostly in two storms, between 10 this evening and 6am Tuesday. Details are in the National Extremes below and for Tuesday.

Despite widespread storms in southeastern Queensland, most of the southern interior of the state remains drought-declared. Eleven shires stretching from the Darling Downs west to Mitchell have received little or nothing from the rain systems that have drenched the southeast coast, and produced good falls in central and southern inland NSW.
