About Australian Weather News
Record low Australian April temperature recorded?
Following yesterday's wintry surge over SE Australia, Kosciuszko Chalet near Charlotte Pass, just east of the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, recorded a minimum temperature of -11.5 this morning. It's believed this is the lowest temperature recorded in Australia in April, the previous record belonging to the old Kiandra station in the northern Snowy Mountains, where -10.8 was recorded on 16 April 1963. The reading has yet to be verified, though the minimum of -6.0 at the nearby and more exposed Crackenback automatic weather station lends support. On the other hand, Perisher Valley's minimum was -3.0, light snow was reported overnight, and winds at 9am were reported to be around 20 to 30km/h. Temperatures were unseasonably low elsewhere in the southeast, with Jerrys Plains in the NSW Hunter Valley, Wagga Wagga NSW and Adelaide's Parafield Airport all reporting minima around 8 or 9 below average.
