Heavy rain in central and eastern Tasmania
Snow in NSW Central West and Southern Tablelands
Tasmania's East Coast and Midlands received their heaviest rain in nearly 3 months overnight, with many locations recording between 50 and 75mm. A cloudband, moving in from the east underneath a weak low pressure system in eastern Bass Strait gave steady rain between about 6pm yesterday and 9 this morning. While the coastal ranges around St Marys recorded the best falls, the farming country around Oatlands recorded 50mm or more, with 54.8 at Rotherwood, 53.0 at Mt Seymour and 51.2 at York Plains the highest.

Light to moderate snow fell in NSW today from the hills west of Canberra north to Orange and Lithgow. A cold airmass moved from western Victoria into southern and central NSW overnight, while a broad area of low pressure over the state triggered patchy precipitation. An unusually long line of storms developed off the length of the NSW coastline around midday as the leading edge of the cold upper air moved offshore. The Oberon weather observer reported 15cm of snow on the ground at 9am, with light snow continuing intermittently through the day. Official reports of snow also came in from Orange, Lithgow, Katoomba, Taralga and Tidbinbilla, in the hills SW of Canberra. The Oberon to Goulburn Road was closed by snow around Black Springs, while four trucks which jack-knifed in icy conditions blocked the main road east of Oberon. There were also reports of moderate snow on main roads out of Bathurst: at Fitzgerald's Mount on the Mid Western Highway to the southwest, The Rocks on the Mitchell Highway to the west, and around Yetholme on the Great Western Highway to the east, though roads were not closed. Light snow covered Mt Panorama at Bathurst at dawn.
