About Australian Weather News
Rain continues on NSW southern coast
Moderate rain with some heavy falls continued on the NSW South Coast today and moved north into the Illawarra. A very active area developed off the NSW South Coast from Jervis Bay south, generating good lightning returns overnight. Cloud top temperature off Ulladulla at 7am were -55° which corresponded to a height of 10km. Radar showed heavy showers off the coast, and these began moving slowly across the coast between Moruya and Gosford during the morning bringing some intense falls (see below). At Mona Vale on Sydney's northern beaches, 27.5mm was measured between 9.30am and 1pm. The heaviest rain occurred from Nowra north to the southern outskirts of Sydney during the late evening. Reverces, near Waterfall south of Sydney, recorded 86mm between 6pm and midnight for a 24 hour to 9am Wednesday total of 119mm.
