About Australian Weather News
Heavy rain develops across southern Qld, central and southeastern NSW
Warm in southwestern WA
The cloudmass that developed yesterday on the eastern side of a surface trough lying from central southern Queensland to the NSW South Coast dramatically increased both in size and intensity this afternoon and evening. In southern Queensland, Roma reported 29mm between 3pm and 9pm, when Injune recorded 19mm and St George and Charleville 16mm. This area of rain moved southeast into NSW and intensified overnight (see report for 26 July).

An area of heavy rain developed on the NSW Illawarra coast during the evening. Bellambi, north of Wollongong, recorded 21mm in the 6 hours to 9pm, then a further 34mm to midnight.

A warm, dry northeasterly airstream raised temperatures over much of the southwestern quarter of Western Australia today, bringing daytime temperatures 4 to 7 above the average. At Windy Harbour, on the south coast between Cape Leeuwin and Albany, the maximum of 22.7 was the highest recorded at the station in its 13 years of record keeping.
