About Australian Weather News
Strong cold front brings a return to winter to the SE
After a long spell of warm weather, temperatures dropped dramatically today as a strong southwesterly change moved through Tasmania, Victoria and southern NSW. Snow fell across the Tasmanian Highlands overnight, and brief snow fell with the passage of the front at Bombala on the NSW Southern Tablelands, which yesterday recorded its warmest July day on record. Light snow is also likely to have fallen elsewhere above about 900m on the Monaro, and was reported in and around Oberon in NSW as well as in alpine areas of Victoria and NSW, though accumulations were not great. Winds were strong and squally with and behind the change, with Thredbo Crackenback station reporting gusts to 113km/h and a sustained speed of 95km/h.
