Wintry hail and gales in SA, Vic
For the second time in two days, a secondary low developed in a trough approaching Tasmania today, tightening pressure gradients over southern SA and western Victoria to produce strong to gale force winds. This system was stronger than Sunday's 999hPa low that tracked through Bass Strait, with central pressure down to 992hPa late this evening as the low intensified off Tasmania's northwest coast. Cold southern air moved northeast around the low to give Adelaide a succession of hail showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening, with winds gusting to 93km/h at Kent Town. Out to sea, Neptune Island recorded a gust of 102km/h, while a gust of 124km/h was reported from Cape Jaffa near Robe just before 3pm as the front moved through.
