| A calm clear night in the wake of an intrusion of colder southern air produced some close to record low minimum temperatures along the NSW Northern Tablelands this morning. Glen Innes Airport recorded a minimum of -9.9, Woolbrook -8.0 and Armidale Uni -7.4. The Glen Innes Agricultural Station, which recorded a screen minimum of -6, 7 below average, also reported a grass minimum of -15, while Armidale's grass minimum was -12. The grass or terrestrial minimum thermometer is exposed level with the top of short-cropped grass and open to the sky, while the screen thermometer is exposed 1 metre above the ground in a louvred Stevenson screen. The Darling Downs in Queensland also experienced an unusually cold morning, with minima up to 8 below average. Oakey and Stanthorpe recorded -5.0°. |
