Heavy rain north of Rockhampton
The trough that has brought heavy rain and storms to much of Queensland over the past three days moved off the central Queensland coast today, but not before giving falls reportedly up to 200mm to an area around Shoalwater Bay north of Rockhampton. Mike Griffin from the Bureau of Meteorology in Brisbane said on ABC Radio at about 9am that "A place called Tilpal off the Stanage Bay Road, had 207 millimetres and they reckon the creek there is one metre over the bridge." The Glen telemeter raingauge, 70km north of Rockhampton, reported a 24 hour total of 92.2mm to 9am, while Yeppoon, 30km NE of Rockhampton, recorded 73.0, 46 falling in 6 hours to 3am. The line of storms that brought the overnight rain headed out to sea soon after 3am, but storms redeveloped along the coastal fringe between Yeppoon and Gladstone around 7am and lingered along this line until nearly 2pm, giving Yeppoon a further 83mm, 56.2mm of which fell in the 2 hours to 1.30pm. Hamilton Island recorded 144mm in the 12 hours between 9pm today and 9am Tuesday.
