Noteworthy weather today
significant newsworthy major

TAS: West Coast rain causes tragedy. Quad and trail bike riders were swept to their death over a waterfall after trying to ford the creek upstream around noon today. Granite Creek, 20km west of Zeehan, was in spate following about 25mm of rain in its headwaters overnight, though this is not unusual on the West Coast in winter. Press reports indicate that one of the riders became bogged in the water, and when his four friends tried to help free him, all five were swept over a 35m waterfall, only two surviving. Two other deaths on TAS roads today were blamed at least partly on roads wet from recent rain.

NSW, VIC: Fogs widespread. Clear skies following recent rain again led to widespread radiation fog this morning, with many centres reporting low visibilities (see today's Noteworthy Observations).

WA: Warm in the Central West. Warm northeasterlies on the back side of a high pressure system brought unseasonably warm, dry weather to the state's Central West today with top temperatures up to 8 above normal. Kalbarri's top of 30.2 was its warmest June day in 32 years of observations.
