Noteworthy weather today
significant newsworthy major

QLD, NT: Cool weather continues to set records. The temperature anomaly charts below show that, although the cold outbreak across the north of the continent is easing, some exceptionally low temperatures for December are still being felt across QLD and the central Territory. Tennant Creek and Lajamanu NT, and Moranbah QLD all set new December lows this morning, with the minimum of 15.7 at Tennant Creek peeling a full degree off its 38-year record (see records). Rain and cloud kept daytime temperatures as much as 10 to 13 below normal across a substantial slice of Central QLD, while overnight lows were 6 to 10 below average across the southern two-thirds of NT and parts of SW QLD (see coldest and the temperature anomaly and solar radiation charts below).

NT: Heavy Top End falls. Thunderstorms and some heavy showers fired up across Arnhem Land during the day. Gove Airport recorded 93mm between 9am and 3pm (see downpours for more reports).
