WA, SA, NT: Warm ahead of front

Warm conditions developed in northwesterly winds ahead of a front moving across southern Australia today. Nullarbor SA had its warmest July night in 21 years, while Newman in the WA East Gascoyne set an 11-year warm July minimum record (see records). Both maximum and minimum temperatures were up to 10 above the July norm (see hottest).

WA: Second front brings more wind, rain and unseasonable falls in the NW

Another cold front crossed SW WA during the afternoon and evening, bringing further heavy rain and high wind gusts. Significant rain was again confined to the far South West, with Pemberton recording 86.7mm over the 48 hours to 9am tomorrow.

Unseasonable falls have occurred in the state's northwest as passing fronts have drawn Timor Sea moisture in from the NW. The rain map for this morning shows an extensive rain band from north of Carnarvon into the Interior, while tomorrow's chart shows rain that fell after 9 this morning extending well into the Pilbara, where Mt Stuart, 135km SE of Onslow, recorded 34.6mm over the two days, twice its July monthly average of 16.6.
