WA, SA, QLD, NSW: Further low temperature records fall

For the third day in a row, low temperature records fell in widely scattered parts of the continent. Today, the greatest minimum temperature anomalies lay in a band from NW NSW to the QLD Central Coast, with Wanaaring NSW and Baralaba and Yeppoon QLD all recording lows 11C or more below the average. Wanaaring's minimum of -2.4 eclipsed the record it set yesterday, while Wilcannia NSW has recorded its lowest May temperature in half a century twice within three days.

In WA, several long-standing May minimum temperature records fell in the far South West. Bridgetown, Pemberton and Jarrahwood, with climatic histories of 50, 48 and 30 years, dropped to new lows, while Bunbury this morning broke the new record it set yesterday. In SA, overnight temperatures warmed up a little, but persistent coastal cloud on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula gave Streaky Bay its coldest May day in 49 years.
