AUS: Heatwave loses strength

Hot conditions continued across much of the continent, though slightly less extreme than in the past two days. Minimum temperatures were 6 to 11° above normal in a broad band from the SE to the NW, while maxima were remarkable in that the entire continent, with the exception of tiny coastal pockets, experienced above average temperatures today. These were still high in the Centre, where Tennant Creek, Ali Curung and Territory Grape Farm would all have broken their previous April records had they not been broken earlier in the month.

QLD: Moderate showers on the North Coast

Moderate falls became more widespread along the QLD North Coast yesterday and today with a dozen stations in the Tully to Cairns area recording between 50 and 90mm to 9am. Topaz, which is well-situated to extract maximum rainfall from moist southeasterlies, topscored with 86.0mm. Coconut Island, situated just off Cape York, recorded a tropical downpour overnight with 82.0mm falling between midnight and 6am.
