WA, NT, QLD: Warm in the north

A warm day followed an even warmer than average night over most of the tropics, as the maps at right show. Daly Waters in the NT equalled their previous record July maximum of 34.7 in 36 years of record, while McArthur River Mine, Wollogorang and Tindal RAAF all came with 1 degree of their previous records. In QLD, Low Isles Lighthouse, 20km off the coast from Mossman, recorded a top of 29.4, just 0.3 off its 38-year record.
