TAS: Heavy rain precedes front

Heavy rain fell across the southwestern half of TAS this morning and afternoon ahead of a front that cleared the state early evening. Strahan Airport recorded a May record 43.8mm for the 24 hours to 9am Wednesday, most of which fell today. Other high 24 hour totals were 59.0 at Lake Margaret and 52.0 at Strathgordon. Grove, just north of Huonville, registered 21.0mm between noon and 3pm, and other high short-duration totals are in downpours below.

WA: Persistent rain in the Pilbara

A rain area developed yesterday on a narrow northwesterly moisture feed onto the WA Pilbara coast east of Dampier. While locations close to Karratha reported 24-hour to 9am totals of around 30mm, Wickham, 30km ENE of the town, reported an isolated 104.0mm. Dampier radar showed clusters of heavy to very heavy showers in the area from around 9am yesterday to 6pm today, and thunderstorms were reported along the Pilbara coast overnight and through today, giving the unusually high total some credibility.
