Newsbits
SA, VIC, NSW, QLD: Widespread frost
TAS: Strong winds and useful rain continue

A look at the actual minimum temperatures map for this morning shows a broad area of SE AUS experienced sub-zero temperatures. On the NSW Northern Tablelands, Armidale Uni recorded -6.9 and Glen Innes -6.3, while in VIC Ballarat recorded -2.7 and Bendigo -2.6. The minimum at Point Hicks, right on the sea in East Gippsland, was 0.5. A lingering fog accompanied the frost in parts of the Murray Valley, with Albury Airport closed resulting in the diversion of three flights. In SE QLD, Gympie's low of -0.6 was 6.8 below normal while lows of -2.7 and -2.5 were reported from Oakey and Warwick. In SA, Yongala, Yunta, Clare and Renmark all reported minima between -1.5 and -1.9, with the state's lowest minimum -2.4 at Gluepot Reserve, 75km NW of Renmark.

Another front in the westerlies crossed TAS this evening, freshening winds but not producing much rain. Top wind gusts were 126km/h on Mt Wellington summit and 117 at Maatsuyker Island, both around 9pm. Derwent Bridge on the Central Plateau recorded 25.4mm to 9am, with Scotts Peak Dam, Strathgordon and Mt Read on the West Coast recording 23 or 24mm. Falls for the 24 hours to 9am Tuesday were mostly less than 10mm.
