AUS: Large high brings large temperature ranges

The high pressure system anchored over eastern AUS, coupled with low moisture levels and little cloud over most of the continent continues to produce low overnight minima and warm days. The minimum and maximum temperature departures from normal maps at right show that only a tiny fraction of the continent recorded maxima below average today, with very warm conditions in parts of NSW, QLD and WA. Eyre in WA set a new June maximum temperature record while Kalgoorlie, Goulburn in NSW and Melbourne Airport in VIC all came within 1C of theirs.

Minimum temperatures, however, were well below normal for June across most of the southeast, with departures as great as 6 to 8C. Wangaratta's low of -5.0 was just 0.6 shy of their June record low.

WA: Heavy storm in Carnarvon

A thunderstorm moving in off the sea dumped 31mm on Carnarvon Airport this afternoon. 25.8mm fell in 26 minutes to 2.10pm.
