WA: Rainfall records fall north of Perth

A succession of wintry showers throughout the 24 hours to 9am today concentrated on the coast and nearby inland areas between Perth and Geraldton. Lancelin recorded 61.2mm with a further 11mm falling 9am to 3pm before the showers petered out. Dandaragan West, 50km NE, recorded 45.8 and Eneabba, 130km to the north recorded 37.7. Both the Lancelin and Eneabba falls were the heaviest August totals in around 40 years of record.

SA, NW VIC: Warm day and evening ahead of low

The low moving ESE across the Bight gave much of SA and northwestern VIC an unusually warm day. In the Murray Valley, Loxton's top of 28.1 was 10.9 above average and Mildura's 27.1 was 10.0 above. Most locations on and near the Eyre Peninsula were similarly about 10 above average (see hottest below), while the highest recording was 32.0 at Tarcoola. Unusually for winter, the heat lingered into the evening. Adelaide's top of 23.1 was recorded at 5.47pm and the temperature remained above 22 until the trough moved through around 8pm. At Mildura the temperature was still 20.8 at 1am Friday.
