WA: Bushfire threatens homes near Esperance

A bushfire that was started by lightning 20km east of Esperance last Tuesday burnt through 4,000 hectares over a six day period. Strong winds today forced the fire to the southeast and homes were evacuated in the Mt Merivale area. 1290ha of nature reserve, 2400ha of unallocated crown land and 1173ha of private land were razed, but there were no reports of property damage.
