WA: Second front brings snow to the Stirlings

Following the heavy showers and blustery SW winds brought by yesterday's change, a second front and closed low crossed the South West this afternoon and evening ushering in very cold, moist southerly winds. The cloudmass and cold air wrapping around the low are clearly visible in the 9pm WST satellite image. People who went into the Stirling Ranges north of Albany on Thursday morning found around 5cm of snow left from overnight falls; snow is rare in WA and most commonly falls on the Stirlings which, peaking at 1099m, is the highest range in the south. The passage of the second front brought wind gusts of 98km/h to Geraldton and 91 on Rottnest Island.

Newsbits

NSW: Unusually cold night in the Hunter: Minimum temperatures in the Hunter Valley were unusually low this morning.
